Our Projects

Our main goal is to protect and conserve Colorado's native land snails. To further that mission we rely on education and citizen scientists.

Project 1. Education

It is important for people to understand how land snails are beneficial to the ecosystem. To do this we must first promote the snail as an animal of interest and remove negative stigma. Snails even make great pets.

As an additional piece to education it is important to inform local gardeners and farmers the impacts their pest decisions can have on populations of Colorado snails. We will keep people first and work with you to find the most financially feasible solution.

Project 2. Snail Survey

There are little to no current records of snails found in Colorado. It would take decades for a small team to do a survey. This project will focus on citizen scientists to gather the necessary data. While hiking, climbing, camping or just in general enjoying the outdoors, citizens will be asked to take pictures of any snails they encounter and an approximate location found. After submitting the picture and location to our facebook the snail will be identified by experts.

Once enough data has been collected, conservation status can then be analyzed.

Project 3. Conservation

Determine risk and status of native Colorado snails so they may be preserved for future generations. As a part of this a participatory map will be created using the data submitted from citizen scientists to this website.
